STEP 1.Take washed 1 cup of dal in a pressure cooker. Add a pinch of salt and ¼ tsp of turmeric powder. Cook till the first whistle blows.

STEP 1.Pour 2 tbsp of coconut oil into a pan and heat it. Add ½ tsp of mustard seeds into the pan and allow it to splutter.

STEP 1.Add 2 dry red chillies, chopped shallots, garlic, a few curry leaves and crushed chilly.

STEP 1.Saute till the ingredients are tender.

STEP 1.Then add 1 cup of grated coconut and saute well.

STEP 1.Now transfer the cooked chana dal into the pan and mix well.

STEP 1.Cook for another 3-4 minutes on medium flame.
