A side dish made from Papaya. Raw Papaya Thoran Recipe is a quick and easy to make side dish for your main courses. The raw papaya is pressure cooked first and then tossed over basic ingredients with no onion and no garlic. You can omit dry red chilli and add just fresh green chilli to the dish. Raw papaya is a great fruit that holds a lot of benefits like it helps in losing weight, it is also very diabetic friendly and also aid is digestion. The fruit is rich in magnesium and potassium as well.

Ingredients for Papaya Thoran Recipe

  • 2 cup Chopped papaya
  • As required Salt
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 cup Grated coconut
  • 5 No.s Bird eye chilly
  • 2 sprig Curry leaves
  • 3 No.s Garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 Mustard seeds
  • 3 No.s Whole red chilly
  • 3 tablespoon Chopped shallots

Directions: Papaya Thoran Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Place an earthen pot on the stove. Add 2 cups of chopped papaya, a pinch of salt, ½ cup of water and ½ tsp turmeric powder.

  • STEP 1.Cover the vessel with a lid n cook for 10-15 minutes on a medium flame.

  • STEP 1.To prepare the coconut gravy, put into the mixer grinder ½ cup of grated coconut, 5 bird eye chilli, 1 sprig of curry leaves, 3 garlic and ½ tsp cumin seeds. Pulse the ingredients.

  • STEP 1.To prepare tempering: Heat oil into a pan. Add ½ tsp mustard seeds and let it to splutter.

  • STEP 1.Add 1 sprig of curry leaves and 3 chopped dry red chillies. Saute well.

step 6

  • STEP 1.Now add some chopped shallots and saute till brown.

step 7

  • STEP 1.Now transfer the pulsed coconut mix into the pan with tempering ingredients. Mix well.

step 8

  • STEP 1.Transfer the cooked papaya and saute in for 2-3 minutes on low flame. Papaya thoran is ready.
