Punugulu or Punukulu is a spicy, crispy and tasty fritter made with idli batter or dosa batter. They are popular street food in some parts of Andhra Pradesh.
STEP 1.Prepare the Idli Batter with Urad dal and Idli Rava by soaking them separately for 4 hours.
STEP 2.Blend Urad dal and add Idli rava and let it ferment for 8 hours.
For Punugulu
STEP 1.In a mixing bowl take 1 cup of Idli batter and ½ cup of maida and combine well.
STEP 2.Add a pinch of Baking soda and salt.
STEP 3.In a pot heat oil for frying and once the oil is hot take the batter and drop in the pot making small balls with your fingers.
STEP 4.Fry punugulu until they appear golden in color, remove them from the pot and remove excess oil.
STEP 5.Serve on a plate and enjoy.
