Punugulu or Punukulu is a spicy, crispy and tasty fritter made with idli batter or dosa batter. They are popular street food in some parts of Andhra Pradesh.

Ingredients for Punugulu Recipe

  • 1/2 cup Idli batter
  • 1/4 cup Maida
  • 1/2 pinch Baking sod
  • As required Salt
  • 1/2 cup oil for frying

Directions: Punugulu Recipe

For Idli Batter

  • STEP 1.Prepare the Idli Batter with Urad dal and Idli Rava by soaking them separately for 4 hours.
  • STEP 2.Blend Urad dal and add Idli rava and let it ferment for 8 hours.

For Punugulu

  • STEP 1.In a mixing bowl take 1 cup of Idli batter and ½ cup of maida and combine well.
  • STEP 2.Add a pinch of Baking soda and salt.
  • STEP 3.In a pot heat oil for frying and once the oil is hot take the batter and drop in the pot making small balls with your fingers.
  • STEP 4.Fry punugulu until they appear golden in color, remove them from the pot and remove excess oil.
  • STEP 5.Serve on a plate and enjoy.
