About Kaali Dal-punjabi Style Recipe:

This is a very delicious and a wholesome punjabi lentil preparation known as kaali dal. It also goes by the name of maa ki dal. Split urad dal or black gram lentil with skin is used to make this nutritious dish which is usually relished with tandoori roti or naan. It can be made more rich with the addition of a generous amount of ghee and cream. I kept it slightly on the lighter side by omitting the cream and went in for some low fat yoghurt.

Ingredients for Kaali dal-punjabi style Recipe

  • 0.19 cup split urad dal with skin , soaked for 1 2 hours
  • 1/2-3/4 tablespoon Oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/4 dry red chili, broken into half
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 onions, chopped
  • 1/2 green chilies, slit
  • 1/4 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon tomato paste
  • 1/4 tablespoon coriander cumin powder
  • As required Salt
  • 0.13 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 0.13 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1/4 tomato, choppd
  • 1/4 tablespoon Yoghurt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ghee
  • As required fresh chilies and coriander leaves to garnish
