‘Kanji’ is originally a Tamil word. European languages have seen variations of the word like ‘candgie’ in Latin, ‘cangia’ in Italian and ‘canjé’ in French. Kerala Kanji is very similar to Chinese congee, which can be traced back to 1000 BC, during the reign of the Zhou dynasty.
