This dish is a perfect comfort food- delicious, nutritious and wholesome. It has got its name from the hollow dough balls which looks like a dulhan's (bride ) veil.
STEP 1.First wash the dal properly, then pour 4-5 cups of water in it. Then add salt and 1 teaspoon of red chili powder. Then cook the dal. Then take the 1 1/2 cup of wheat flour and mix it with the ragi flour. Then add salt and water in it and mix it altogether to form a dough. Then form small balls from the dough and flatten it like a puri. Then take the flattened dough and dab it with water in the corners. Then attach the corners (water acting as adhesive) and form it into a dulhan shape.
STEP 3.Then add the dulhan shaped dough in the dal and cook it altogether. Then separate the dough from the dal and keep it in another bowl. Then for tempering, add 2 tbsp of ghee, 1/2 teaspoon of asafetida, 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds, chopped garlic, 2 deghi mirch and 1/4 teaspoon of red chili powder.
STEP 4.Then add the tempering in the dal and mix it well. Then pour the dal in the bowl where the dulhan is kept. Then garnish it with radish, tomato and coriander.
