Tongba Is The Sacred Brew Of Eastern Nepal’s Snowy Mountains
Tongba, Jarr, or Chaang are the traditional beer-like alcoholic beverages of Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Sikkim, and the Eastern Nepal highlands. A bamboo or wooden dungro is used to steep the Jarr (fermented millet), which is then sipped through a thin bamboo pipsin straw. A nourishing, moderately stimulating, and belly-warming beverage, Tongba is best enjoyed during the winter months.
