Sakkarai pongal or sweet rice pongal is traditionally made as an offering to sun god in tamilnadu for pongal or makar sankranti. Usually the pongal is cooked outside and shared with family and folks working in the farm as a thanksgiving meal. Traditionally the pongal is cooked in a vengala panai or brass pot.
