The world is increasingly turning towards veganism. Someone who follows a plant-based diet and abstains from consuming animals is often referred to as a vegan. This new shift in diet preference has resulted in several alternate vegan options being introduced to the world. You’d find almond and soy milk for vegans along with vegan porridge, idlis, and many other varieties that can be eaten for breakfast.

The idea is to avoid consumption of animals and dairy products like milk, cheese, and butter. The vegan substitutes are then used in the regular breakfast dishes to make it fit for consumption. Since breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day, here are some quick vegan breakfast ideas that you can try at home.

1.   Vegan Scrambled Eggs

If there’s anything that can provide you with good protein for breakfast, it has to be eggs. Since vegans don’t consume eggs, tofu is a great substitute. Tofu is broken down into smaller pieces and tossed with vegetables like onions, tomatoes, green chillies, and a few spices. Turmeric powder is added to give it a yellow tint and tastes amazing.

2.   Vegan Overnight Oats

Overnight oats are considered a healthy breakfast treat. The oats are soaked in water overnight and soften by morning. These can then be dunked into a jar and mixed with almond milk or soy milk. Topped with blueberries, the oats jar is all things creamy and tasty.

3.   Moong Dal Chilla

This is an Indian pancake that is made with lentils. Moong dal is a great source of protein and works well for breakfast. The dish is made by spreading a batter of moong dal on a pan. Add to this, some onions and green chillies for flavour and cook it well from both sides. Serve crispy hot with some chutney.

4.  Steamed Dhokla

This much-revered Gujarati snack is a popular breakfast treat too. Dhokla is a soft and spongy cake that is sweet and tangy at the same time. The fermented batter is made with lentils like chickpeas, besan etc. This is then steamed instead to be deep-fried. Topped with mustard seeds and lots of green chillies on the side, it is a great vegan option too.

5.   Oats Idli

Idlis are steamed rice cakes that are commonly eaten for breakfast across India. A South Indian staple, idli is usually made with rice flour, but a combination of rava and lentils can also be added to it. Here, oats are added to the idli batter and it turns out to be healthier and tastier. The idli is a gluten-free and vegan-friendly breakfast dish.
