The word cutlet has many definitions in the world of food and hospitality. At times, it could be used to refer to a thin slice of meat, from the leg or ribs of mutton, veal, chicken or pork. When the same slice is coated in bread crumbs and fried, even then it is still referred to as cutlet or kotelett or cotoletta. Even a prawn or shrimp with its head and outer shell removed is known as cutlet. But however, the most common usage of the word cutlet is on our breakfast table, where more often than not we are referring to round-shaped croquette-like snacks coated with bread crumbs, filled with veggies or meat.
