Call him the ‘God of Cricket’ or ‘Master Blaster’, the prowess of Sachin Tendulkar in the field of cricket is unmatched. But a lesser-known fact about the cricket legend is that he loves food and also believes in trying out dishes from different culinary cultures. Be it at home or while travelling to another country, the sportsman has made it a point to try out all sorts of cuisines while he’s on the go.

How did his passion for cricket infuse with his love for food? Travel has to be the answer to it. In an interview with Mid-Day, the cricketer stated how he had to travel to Europe and so many other countries for matches. During this time, he would relish all the exquisite food that the place had to offer. Although he enjoyed all that a lot, when he came back home, it was his mother’s home-cooked meals that gave him the real joy.

Recently, Sachin was seen in an interview with South African cricketer, AB de Villiers.  He took to his Instagram to share a glimpse of their shoot. However, what caught our eye was the food that was kept on the table. There was bun maska, and we couldn’t stop smiling after looking at it. This is proof that the cricket star is a true desi foodie. Homemade food by his mother is what makes this Maharashtrian boy the happiest.

He also remarked in one of his interviews that he loves his mother’s varan bhat and enjoys it to the core when he comes back home from tournaments. Now that he has retired from cricket, he makes the most of his time by eating his mom’s fish and prawn curries, so much so that he even asked his chef to learn from her. Another Maharashtrian dish that has his heart is vada pav, which has memories of his college days attached to it.

Not just Maharashtrian, Goan food is also one of his favourites and Martin’s Corner, an eating joint, is his go-to place there. Recently, he also explored a local eatery in Goa, serving delicious breakfast for decades.
