A power-packed morning meal is a great idea to start your day. To boost energy and keep oneself in high spirits, several dishes can be whipped up in the morning. For non-vegetarians, the go-to source of protein for breakfast is usually eggs. While eggs are undoubtedly a great addition to your meal, one can also find ways of having chicken for breakfast.

If you thought it could only feature in curries and gravies, you’re mistaken. A quick and easy chicken sandwich or a chicken-loaded paratha can be a part of your breakfast spread. A good way to enjoy a protein-rich breakfast with much more than just eggs, here are some chicken recipes that are perfect to try in the morning.

1.  Minced Chicken Paratha

Paratha is an Indian flatbread that is made with wheat flour and often, stuffed with fillings like mashed vegetables like potatoes. If you’re a true desi at heart and can’t skip the breakfast wale parathe, you should try these chicken parathas. Filled with a minced chicken filling, the protein is spread on the rolled out dough which is folded and rolled out again. Finally, it is tossed on a tawa and can be eaten with a spicy chutney.

2.  Chicken Idli

Ever heard of this combination before? Well, then you should definitely try it. Idlis are steamed rice cakes from South India that are a breakfast staple, usually made with rice flour and some lentils. In this recipe, the idli is made with rice flour, chana dal and urad dal along with an addition of diced chicken to the batter. This is whisked together with spices and coriander leaves. Once made into a thick mixture, the idli is steamed and served with coconut chutney and sambar.

3.  Chicken Poha

This one-pot dish might remind one of their favourite biryani but this one is made with flattened rice. Poha aka flattened rice is generally a vegetarian breakfast item in many parts of North India. However, this recipe makes the dish apt for meat lovers. The chicken is marinated in coriander, cumin, garam masala as well as turmeric powder. The marinated chicken is then layered in the pot, along with the poha. Cooked on low heat and with a coal placed in the centre for a smokey effect, this is a rather elaborate breakfast dish.

4.     Chicken Sausage Omlette

Omlette is a commonly eaten breakfast item in many non-vegetarian households. In India, it is usually a masala omlette that is prepared. Filled with vegetables like chopped tomatoes, onions and coriander leaves along with salt and red chilli powder, the omlette is cooked on a pan. To this, one can add sliced chicken sausages. Fold the omlette and let the sausages cook in its heat. Serve with buttered toast.

5.    Chicken Vada Pav

The indulgent street food of Mumbai, vada pav is a classic breakfast treat and snack. A crispy, fried potato patty sandwiched between a pav that is slathered with hot red chilli powder and chutney is the perfect breakfast for most locals there. Mixed with boiled potatoes and spices, the vada is deep-fried in hot oil and packed between a pav like no other.
