How About Making Delicious Apple Dumplings?

September 17 is designated National Apple Dumpling Day in the United States. It honours this delectable treat. But what exactly are apple dumplings? Apples wrapped in pastry and baked or boiled are known as apple dumplings. It is made using peeled, cored, and occasionally cut into quarters apples in a piece of dough.

One of the earliest fruit puddings ever prepared was boiled apple dumplings. Hannah Glasse included two apple dumpling recipes in her cookbook in 1747. Numerous reports of it have also been established. One was by botanist Pehr Kalm in 1749–1750, who claimed to have eaten apple dumplings daily while travelling from New Jersey to Quebec. According to another report, English agriculturalist William Ellis referred to them as one of the most popular delicacies among farmers in 1754. Even famous people like Thomas Edison enjoyed apple dumplings; they were his favourite dish.

Let's make an easy apple dumpling dish. 

Ingredients 

  • 2 granny smith apples
  • 2 cans of crescent dough
  • 1 1/2 sticks of butter (some more for the pan)
  • 1 cup. brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • A pinch of kosher salt
  • 230 ml lemon-lime soda

  1. Set the oven to 350 degrees and butter a sizable baking pan. Apples should be peeled, cored, and then sliced into eighths.
  2. Make triangle shapes out of the crescent dough. Take one apple slice and roll it into a triangle shape, beginning at the wider end. 
  3. Repeat with the remaining crescents and apple slices. Place them inside the pan that has been prepared.
  4. Melt butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt in a small saucepan over medium heat. Pour it over apples.
  5. Now carefully start pouring the soda around the edge of the pan. See to it that it's not running on top of dumplings.
  6.  Bake dumplings till they develop a golden hue. It will take around half an hour.

Relish it by serving it warm with your choice of ice cream. Also, add a spoonful of sauce from the pan over the dumplings.
