Dussehra Special: Typical Western U.P Thali To Relish This Year

Dussehra is marked with zeal and high spirit as this Hindu festival is symbolic of the victory of good over evil. On this joyous festival, people come together to celebrate this day with unity by burning the effigies of the demon king Ravana and then relishing this day with good food. People belonging from different states prepare their own authentic and tempting variety of dishes from sweets to savoury. In the western part of Uttar Pradesh, after performing their rituals of offering prayers to Lord Ram, they serve a thali that comprises only ‘Raw food / kacha khana’. On the other hand, in most northern states of India, instead of making fried food dishes or ‘Pakka khana’, people treat themselves to ‘kacha khana'. This is believed to be a part of a long lost tradition that is hardly followed by people nowadays as they have moved from such olden days traditions and are lost in modern-day practices.
