These puffy and bouncy homemade Chinese steamed buns with scallions emerge from the steamer with a feathery light texture, a great crunch, and an onion kind of taste penetrating every bite. Hua Juan is a popular Chinese breakfast and snack item, fluffy white vessels that can be eaten plain or stuffed with a variety of fillings ranging from barbecued pork to egg custard. The dish is thought to have originated in China. The dough is basically the same as bao dough, but it's shaped differently, so you can make these in any shape you like. Because this is a yeasted dough, you'll need to give time for the dough to rise and then the shaped buns to prove. You'll also need a method for steaming the buns. This meal is surprisingly easy to prepare and quite delicious. They have a lovely somewhat sticky texture and are super soft. You may make your dream snack by dipping them in the wonderfully spicy dipping sauce.
