The word Maki in Japanese refers to something that is cut from a long log. Dashimaki Tomago is a popular brunch or Bento Box dish, that is essentially just rolled, pan-fried eggs. It looks a lot like Tamagoyaki. The cooking and rolling technique are also somewhat similar, however, there is a small variance in overall flavour and the set of ingredients used.
As the name suggests, in Dashimaki, Dashi is mixed with eggs. Dashi is a Japanese soup stock, that forms the base of many Japanese dishes, like Miso soup. Dashimaki Tomago is also much moister, due to the presence of extra liquid. The flavour is also much milder, something you can describe as 'umami'. To make this delish dish, just wrap the rolled egg in a mat and let it cool.
