Slices of dried orange are a popular holiday custom. They have long served as a representation of Christmas. Often it becomes a ritual involving everyone in the family, including the kids, to assist with this enjoyable festive project, i.e., dried orange slices, which can be utilised in various ways.  Employ them as cocktail garnishes, seasonal decorations, and more.

Pre-prep before drying

After thorough washing and drying, slice oranges crosswise into 1/4-inch pieces. Speed up the drying process by patting them with paper towels. Any citrus variety can be used.

Different ways to dry

Place wire racks on top of sizable baking sheets. If the rack doesn't fit the baking sheets, prepare them with parchment paper and bake the oranges straight on them, flipping halfway through. However, using a wire rack is better for cooking. You can also use a large air fryer or dehydrator if you have one. When the slices feel dry to the touch, they are ready. Avoid overcooking them to prevent browning. Before using, let them thoroughly cool as they will turn crisp on cooling down.

Another easy and natural way is to thread the slices like a garland and tie it near the place with good sunlight and airflow. But ensure they don't accumulate dirt or get contaminated. To create an orange garland, use a toothpick to punch a hole along an orange's edge, just below the peel and pith. Use a needle and thread as a substitute.
