White Button Mushroom
The cultivation of white button mushrooms is the highest in the country, and the biggest reason for this is that it proliferates according to the Indian temperature. There is also a lot of encouragement by the government for its cultivation. This mushroom requires a 22-26°C temperature and a ventilated place to grow well. Its consumption reduces obesity; also, it tastes excellent as well. It is sold in the price range of ₹50 to ₹120 per kg.
Milky mushrooms have been cultivated in India since the beginning of 1976 in West Bengal. It is also being grown extensively in states like Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Antioxidants are found in large quantities in this mushroom, which increases the body's immunity. In addition, the amount of carbohydrates in it is significantly less, helping control blood sugar levels and weight.
Oyster mushroom is cultivated throughout the year in India. The most favourable temperature for this is 20-30°C. Therefore, this mushroom is in great demand in the Indian market. Several species of oyster mushrooms take two to three months to grow at different temperatures. Its price ranges between ₹120 to ₹1,000 per kg, and its rate depends on its quality.
Shiitake mushroom has many medicinal properties and can be quickly grown at home. It is the second most-produced mushroom globally, rich in protein, vitamins and beneficial for diseases like diabetes. It is sold in the market at about ₹2,000 per kg.
