The team who are in the country for the World Cup and all set to play against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens, enjoyed a variety of specialties like biryani, kebabs, chap and shahi tukda in the City of Joy. Known to have previously relished the famous biryani while in Hyderabad, the spree continues.
The Pakistan cricket team who are currently in Kolkata, to play against the Bangla Tigers in the World Cup, are reportedly said to have given food prepared by chefs at the hotel a miss, to sample some delicious Kolkata biryani. The team, led by captain Babar Azam, arrived in the city on Saturday after a four-match loss, after playing in Hyderabad – where they were also touted to be enjoying the city’s biryani offerings.
In the same spirit, they decided to place an order via a food delivery app for a feast that included Kolkata biryani, kebabs, phirni, shahi tukda and chap. The men in green have been known to be quite the connoisseurs when it comes to trying out food from local spots during their visit to India after seven long years. The whirlwind tour also included the team visiting Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Chennai, before they finally made it to the City of Joy.
Shadab Khan even famously joked during an after-match interview with Harsha Bhogle, where he attributed the team’s ‘lethargic’ performance to feasting on Hyderabadi biryani, when they lost a match against New Zealand recently. The team, whose cheat meals while in Hyderabad also included butter chicken, grilled fish, lamb chops, pulao, spaghetti bolognese and mutton curry, have been on quite the gastronomic journey during the course of their touring and stay in different cities. All set to compete to make it to the semi-finals in the upcoming match tomorrow, it remains to be seen whether they will make the cut to be amongst the top contenders for the championship.
