Pizzas Can Be Healthy, This Ragi Pizza Is Proof

Pizza is one of the favourite foods around the world. This Italian dish has become one of the most go-to food for small parties and get-togethers. The combination of flatbread with toppings like oregano, tomato, olives and mozzarella can make you an addict. Even the pickiest eaters can fall in love with pizza and it comes in various varieties for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. However, it is considered unhealthy due to its high quantity of calories, sodium, and carbs, but still the demand is high.

 You might have enjoyed various types of pizza like pepperoni, margherita, and BBQ chicken but have you ever tried the healthy ragi pizza? Yes, you heard it right, a pizza with the goodness of healthy grain flour. As it is densely packed with a lot of nutrients like vitamin B, C, iron, calcium, and antioxidants, ragi has valuable health benefits. Some of them are enhancing digestion, reducing the risk of heart disease, slowing down ageing and managing diabetes. 

So, if you want to try healthy ragi pizza at home, here is the recipe: 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup ragi 
  • 1 cup water 
  • Salt to taste 
  • 1 ½ tsp oil 
  • ¼ cup pizza sauce 
  • ½ cup mozzarella cheese 
  • Vegetables of your choice for topping 
  • 1 tsp chilli flakes 
  • Salt & pepper for seasoning  

 Method:

  • Boil the water in a pan and add salt, oil and flour.  
  • Switch off the flame and mix the flour and water very well till it all comes together. 
  • Let it rest for two minutes till it cools down. 
  • Now bring out the cooked flour onto a clean work surface and knead it without adding anything for one minute. 
  • Divide the dough into two parts. 
  • Using dry flour, roll out the dough to a six-inch diameter circle. 
  • Heat your roti tawa. 
  • Place your rolled-out roti onto the tawa and cook completely using oil, till slightly crisp. 
  • Now take the tawa off the flame, spread the pizza sauce and then grated cheese onto your pizza base. Add vegetables, season with salt, pepper, chilli flakes and mixed herbs. 
  • Cook the pizza again, covered with a lid, on medium heat, for three to four minutes. 
  • Now uncover & cook for another two minutes or till the base is completely crisp. 
  • Repeat the process for the second pizza. 

Slice and serve hot!
