What started as a viral sensation in Dubai has now emerged as a dessert obsession. The viral Dubai chewy cookie, which is inspired by the internet-well-known Dubai chocolate bar that is layered with pistachio cream, tahini, and crisp knafeh pastry, has taken South Korea by storm. As per the media reports, this rich, textured cookie has taken over social media and bakeries, attracting long queues and sell-outs within a few minutes. What makes this trend unique is how far it has travelled beyond just the dessert shops.
Some stores have also begun limiting how many cookies one customer can buy. Much like the original Dubai chocolate, the charm lies in contrast: chewy centres, nutty taste, and a sense of luxury that feels both familiar and lavish. It is proof that viral desserts today not only cross borders, but they also adapt, develop, and spark completely new cravings.
The New Dessert Craze In South Korea
The trend first came to light last September when Jang Won-young from the K-pop group posted a photo of the cookie on Instagram (a social media app). Since then, prices have risen high. It is currently ranging between 5,000 and 10,000 won (INR 308-616), and pistachio costs have jumped by 20 per cent, as per local media reports. There is even a real-time map that reportedly tracks stores that are selling the dessert and their stock levels. The Dubai chewy cookie craze has no signs of slowing down. Many food critics also claim that the Dubai chewy cookies have taken off in South Korea because of how thick and dense they appear to be.

How To Make The Viral Dubai Chewy Cookie At Home
If, amid all the craze, you have an urge to try this viral sensation but can’t find it in your city, simply make it yourself, as no baking is required. This Dubai chewy cookie is all about layering, i.e. crisp buttery kataifi, rich pistachio cream, and a soft cocoa-marshmallow coating that remains fudgy even when set.
Ingredients
For the pistachio filling
150 g kataifi pastry (finely chopped)
20 g unsalted butter
250 g pistachio cream
For the chewy chocolate exterior
200 g marshmallows
30 g butter
15 g cocoa powder (sifted)
20 g milk powder
For finishing
Extra cocoa powder, for dusting
Step 1: Make The Pistachio Centre
In a pan, heat butter and add finely chopped kataifi. Toast it on a low flame while stirring constantly, until it turns golden and crisp. This step adds the crunchiness and a nutty aroma to it. Let it cool a little, then mix it with pistachio cream until it thickens. Refrigerate for 10-15 minutes, then roll to make small balls.
Step 2: Prepare Chewy Outer Layer
In another pan, melt some more butter and marshmallows on low heat, while stirring until it turns smooth and flexible. Sift in cocoa powder and milk powder, blending thoroughly to avoid lumps. Remove it from the heat and let the mixture cool down completely. It will thicken and become easy to handle.
Step 3: Assemble Cookies
Flatten one portion of the cooled marshmallow mixture in your palm. Place the pistachio filling ball in the centre and gently wrap the chocolate mixture around it, sealing it well. Roll to make smooth balls and dust lightly with some cocoa powder.
Keep it in the refrigerator for a short while, briefly if required, and enjoy a chewy, nutty, chocolate-rich cookie that tastes just as sumptuous as the viral one.
