Fafda jalebi is a traditional Gujarati snack that is consumed during Dussehra. It is believed that the Navratri Fast must be broken by consuming something made of gram flour, which is where Fafda comes in. Made mostly from a mixture of chickpea flour, some spices and baking soda, Fafda is a crisp snack relished by individuals of all ages. It is served with crisp deep fried sweet pretzels called Jalebis. This combination is not only a staple of Dussehra, but also a Sunday special breakfast dish in many Gujarati households. The best places for Fafda Jalebi in Delhi are:

We went to this place on a hunch and weren't disappointed at all. With all kinds of biscuits, namkeens and snacks with a myriad of flavors and textures, the sheer variety had us reeling for a bit. We tried one of their biscuits and found it very tasty. However, the prices were slightly on the higher side. But the taste alone seems to justify it.

Gujrat Namkeen Bhandar
Another one stop shop for all Gujarati namkeen and snacks in the Rohini area, Gujrat Namkeen Bhandar is the place to be at. Renowned for their homemade Gujarati food and tasty chutneys, we were suggested the Ram Laddoo, Mirch Pakoda and Mix Pakoda with the green chutney by the locals and store patrons and we did not regret our decision one bit after ordering them. The tasty pakodas literally disappeared within seconds of arrival, which is less of a testament to our hogging prowess and more evidence of the tasty food being served at hand.

We tried the namkeen and dhokla and were pleasantly surprised at the taste and prices. The place is so famous that it took us quite some time to pay for our order with all the rush and crowd in the shop. We did pick up some Fafda and Thepla for later consumption and relished them at our friend's house.

This store bears a very similar name to the previous entry but stands all by itself on the merits of the food it serves. It sells some of the best Gujarati snacks in the area at affordable prices. When we entered the Pitampura area searching for some farsan shops, a local recommended this place. The various biscuits and namkeens, including the famous Fafda and Gujarati staples like Thepla and Khakra, enticed us. Consequently, we ordered the Fafda and tasted it before getting more packed to take home with us, and we weren’t disappointed.

Many non-Gujaratis also frequent these places for their dhokla and fafda fix. We were accompanied by a Gujarati friend who knew all about Gujarati food and Farsan shops in Delhi. He did also say that if one is unable to find a single place selling Fafda and Jalebi together, they should get both of them from different shops just like some Gujarati families who don't live near Farsan shops.
