Ask anyone in Delhi-NCR about where to find the best momos, and they will recommend you to once try Dolma Aunty’s momos. Located in Lajpat Nagar, the stall has reportedly been in existence in the National Capital Region since 1994. The owner, Tsering, is referred to as Dolma Aunty by Delhities visiting Lajpat Nagar to shop the latest fashion picks, home decor, accessories, shoes, bags, and whatnot.

However, Dolma Aunty filed a petition before the Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB) in 2021 that Mohd Akram Khan, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, was using her trademark. She alleged that he was also using her name ‘Dolma’. After the board was abolished in April 2021, the matter was moved to the Delhi High Court where the petitioner wanted the cancellation of the trademark Khan was using.

The bench, headed by Justice Anish Dayal, noted that Khan did not respond to the petition filed by Tsering. It meant he accepted the allegations. The court ordered the UP man to withdraw the ‘Dolma’ trademark from the Trade Mark Register.

The justice was quoted saying, “In view of the above facts and circumstances and having perused the documents placed on record as well as hearing submissions of counsel for the petitioner, this court is of the view that the trademark of respondent No.1 be cancelled and removed from the Trade Marks Register same should accordingly be rectified. Respondent No. 1's registered trademark be removed and cancelled in the above terms. The Register be rectified accordingly, and the website of the Registrar of Trademarks be updated within a period of four weeks."

Tsering applied for the ‘Dolma Aunty Momos’ trademark in 2022, and she received it in November 2023. She has the exclusive rights to use the name, and no other business owner can use the same without inviting legal notice.
