If you have even a little love for rice, you know the importance of pulao. It is just not your regular rice but with a touch of cumin, spices, and vegetables. We Indians know how fancy it is for us. One aspect that contributes to making it fancy is its cooking process. Some people may find it hard as it may consume a lot of time but what if we tell you that you can get rid of this tiring process? Yes, it is possible if you make pulao in a kettle. A kettle is much more useful than you ever thought!! 

Imagine making matar pulao in less than 15 minutes. You might say it is not possible at all but actually, it is. We just realized it after we saw chef Pankaj Bhadouria’s Instagram post where she showed how to make matar pulao in an electric kettle. This is a boon for those who always are in a rush and all those lazy ones who don’t want to get up from bed. I know this is a life-changing hack!!

Making pulao or any other rice dish in a kettle is very easy. You can add or subtract vegetables as per your choice. But there is one thing that we might have to worry about. If you are willing to cook pulao for like 4 to 5 people, the kettle hack might not work. But we have a solution for this as well. In such a situation, you can cook the rice first in a kettle, and then you can cook vegetables with the masala in the next turn. When you have cooked rice and veggies, you can mix them together in a bowl and it is good to go. Ingredients 

  • 1 cup rice (soaked) 
  • ½ cup cumin 
  • 1 tsp oil or butter 
  • ½ cup soya nuggets (soaked and washed) 
  • ¼ cup matar  
  • 2 cups water 
  • 1 tsp red chili powder 
  • 1 tsp garam masala 
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste 
  • A little magic masala (optional)  

Method 

  • Take an electric kettle and add oil and cumin to it. 
  • Switch on the kettle and wait till the kettle switches off on its own. 
  • You will see the cumin spluttering. 
  • Now add soaked rice and soya nuggets. 
  • Also add matar, ginger garlic paste, red chili powder, and magic masala. 
  • Add water and mix well. 
  • Switch on the kettle and cook the rice for 5 to 6 minutes. 
  • You will see that the kettle switches off its own. 
  • Switch on it again and repeat the process for five minutes. 
  • When you see the water absorbed completely, switch off the kettle 
  • Don’t take out the rice but let it be in the kettle for 5 to 6 minutes. 
  • When done, garnish the rice with coriander leaves and serve
