The trend of eating clean and healthy saw an upsurge during the lockdown. People became conscious of their eating habits and food choices. Anushka Sharma is one such foodie who turned vegan in the wake of environmental concerns, and ever since then, we see her eating clean and healthy even while she’s snacking.

Those who follow Anushka on social media would know that the Bollywood actor can never say no to good food. However, in order to maintain her physique, she has a healthy approach towards food. She recently took to her Instagram stories to share what she was snacking on and revealed her favourite snack for us. It is no other than makhana. Also known as fox nuts, makhana is a type of edible seed that is obtained from the water lily and usually dried before it is consumed.

Anushka shared a picture of a bowlful of makhana and wrote, “Favourite snack”. Well, we aren’t surprised as she even carries a pancake mix as her favourite travel partner wherever she goes, as revealed in a few earlier stories. She went on to share a video posted by another account, showing how makhana is made too. Makhana comes packed with a lot of health benefits. A light and healthy snack that can be munched on all day long and keep you full too, makhana has many antioxidants and high protein content too.


Not only is it good for regulating blood sugar levels, making it an ideal snack for diabetics, it is also a great snacking option for those trying to lose weight. All one needs to do is lightly roast the makhana in a pan with a drizzle of oil and start popping them in the mouth right after. These days, several makhana flavourings are also available, where you can add spices like red chilli, turmeric, and garam masala, etc., to make it even more delicious.

The 34-year-old actor swears by makhana for snacking but this is not all. Earlier, we saw Anushka making jam at home. She was seen plucking tomatoes from her garden and making a delicious jam from them. The actor is super close to nature and enjoys all the natural food available in her surroundings. We’ve also seen her dilemma over choosing between a vegan chicken burger or a mutton one when she was shooting for a film abroad.
