From excessive screen time, to poor dietary choices or lifestyle choices, we expose our eyes to infections and sight-related complications, that can be easily avoided by taking a few simple but effective measures. Handwashing

One of the most important steps in preventing eye infections is to wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially before touching your eyes, face, or contact lenses. This helps to reduce the transmission of germs and bacteria. Washing your hands also allows you to prevent the transfer of dust or dirt that you might have come in contact with, while touching surfaces. Try to avoid rubbing or touching your eyes with unwashed hands. If your eyes are irritated, use a clean, damp cloth to gently clean them instead.

Maintaining Healthy Diet

A balanced diet can contribute to better eye health. Incorporate foods rich in vitamins A, C, E, and zinc, as they have been shown to benefit eye health. Some good options include carrots, leafy greens, citrus fruits, nuts, and seeds. Also including leafy greens and foods like eggs and fish, are great ways to maintain good eye sight.

Eye Care And Eye Wear

If you spend long hours in front of screens (computers, smartphones, tablets), practice the 20-20-20 rule. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds to reduce eye strain. Also make sure to wear sunglasses that provide UV protection when outdoors, as excessive exposure to UV rays can increase the risk of eye infections and other eye problems.

Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is essential for overall health, including eye health. It helps to keep your eyes moist and reduces the risk of dry eyes, which can be more susceptible to infections. Dry eyes also cause plenty of discomfort and is harmful for long-term eye health, hence gently rinsing your eyes with regular water, also soothes the nerves.

If you wear glasses, clean them regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and lens cleaner to remove dirt, bacteria, and oil. Also taking regular eye exams help in detecting any eye problems early on and ensuring your eyes are in good health.
