While Mondays usually begin with a monotonous tone and the so-called Monday blues, for actor Anupam Kher, the opposite was true. The talented veteran actor of the industry hails from a theatre background and has chaired the Film And Television Institute Of India for several years too. His immense knowledge of cinema and experience of working in over 500 films makes him one of the few stalwarts of the Hindi film industry. He has been a strong voice in expressing opinions about incidents happening in the country. However, one thing that not many may know about the great actor is his love for food.

A die-hard foodie who has forgotten his Kashmiri roots, was spotted devouring a traditional Kashmiri feast with his family in his brother’s house. The brother duo got together after a long time and spent quality time with each other over good food. The 67-year old actor’s excitement upon seeing all the Kashmiri delicacies on the table was unmatched. There was rogan josh, dum aloo, paneer and what not on the menu prepared by his sister-in-law. The total foodie that he is, The Kashmir Files actor gave us a glimpse of his breakfast last morning and it looked absolutely delish. He was seen breaking bread with his friend @ashokepandit on his Instagram stories. Since Anupam Kher has sent us craving for all these South Indian dishes, here are some recipe you can make at home for breakfast.

1.  Rava Idli

Idlis, for the unversed, are round rice cakes popular in South Indian cuisine. The savoury cakes are made with rice flour usually. Sometimes, semolina or sooji is added to it which is also known as rava. The idli batter is thick and smooth and is poured into an idli mould. The idlis are steamed until soft and served hot with tangy sambhar and coconut chutney.

2.  Masala Dosa

This is a South Indian style crepe that is crispy and crunchy. Also made from rice flour, the dosa batter is spread on a huge tawa and then wrapped when it is crispy from both sides. The masala refers to a spicy potato mixture made from mashed potatoes and spices. Seasoned with mustard seeds, the dosa is stuffed with this and then served with sambhar and chutney.

3.  Mix Veg Uttapam

This is the South Indian version of pancakes which are savoury. The batter is the same as dosa but once the batter is poured on the tawa, chopped veggies like tomatoes, onions and green chillies are also added to it.
