Woke up in the morning, brushed your teeth and start sipping a cup of coffee. Next, have your breakfast while sipping another cup of filter coffee. Mid-day break at work, a cup of coffee is a must. How can one imagine the 4. pm chatter without another cup? Those days of extended working hours chasing deadlines, only a cup of coffee can you awake and agile. You must pause if you are resonating with such a caffeine-loaded life. It might taste good, leave a relaxing effect on your mood and give an instant energy boost, but the list of adverse effects of sipping an overdose of coffee during a day is terrifying.

Non cardiac health-friendly

Caffeine may make your heart pulse rapidly as a stimulant that helps you wake up. For those very sensitive, too much caffeine raises heart rate in a threatening manner. It may also cause strange heartbeats, sometimes known as heart palpitations.

Caffeine-induced anxiety

The brain chemical adenosine, which makes you feel weary, is blocked by caffeine, according to a study, which makes you more alert. Additionally, it causes the release of adrenalin, which is known to boost energy. However, if the caffeine intake is high enough, these effects are more severe and can lead to anxiety.

Gastrin is said to be released as a result of drinking coffee, which has a laxative effect. It is a hormone that the stomach generates to boost colon activity. Caffeine stimulates the adrenal glands to release more stress hormones, such as norepinephrine, adrenaline, and cortisol. Among all these, cortisol is alarming as its release contributes to exhaustion. A heightened response to regular stressful occurrences can result from an elevated level of stress hormones in our system.

The ideal caffeine quantity:

  • To get the goodness of coffee without letting it harm your health, one must be careful about its daily quantity. 
  • Ideally, 100 to 200 mg of caffeine, or 1 to 2 cups of regular coffee, is sufficient.
