What’s In Padma Lakshmi’s Indian Snack Stash? Reviews Inside

It is rare to find someone away from their homeland yet so connected to their roots. That’s how Padma Lakshmi is. The Indian-born American writer, model, and television show host has added several feathers to her cap over the years. The foodie side of Padma led her to host a popular British cookery show on TV, only adding to her love for Indian food over the years.

Although she lives far away from her native place, Padma has managed to keep in touch with the Indian flavours and also keeps reminding herself of the regional tastes by making old recipes handed down by her mother and grandmother. This time, she was headed to an Indian grocery store in London and ended up grabbing a couple of Indian snacks off the shelves. Later, she decided to rate and review each one according to flavour and texture and we loved every bit of it.

She posted this review video on her Instagram handle and it is quite fun to watch. First, she began with cinnamon crisps. While she liked the crunch of the biscuits, she felt that the flavour wasn’t very strong. She gave it a 7/10 rating. Next, she tried elaichi aka cardamom-flavoured biscuits. The first bite in and she was blown away by the sweet and soft flavour of this treat which made her give it an 8/10. This was followed by sesame snaps, which is basically til ki chikki.

This sweet meat did not appeal to her taste buds that much and she ended up giving it a 7/10 yet again. Finally, we could see her tearing two packets of chips. Both were Indian flavours. The first one was sizzling hot Lay’s chips and the other one was the Kurkure chilli chatka flavour. While the heat of the former hit the back of her throat and she liked the kick it had, the latter reminded her of Indian chaat. The tangy and spicy flavours transported her to the chatpata snacking habits of India.

She gave the hot crisps 9/10, while the chilli chatka ones got an 8/10. All in all, she enjoyed all these tasty treats. In fact, her caption read, “What other snacks should I try while I’m in London?”. Well, if it was left to us, we think there are plenty of Indian snacks that still need her review.
