Viral Video: Try YouTuber’s Quick Recipe For A Mexican Salad

Mexican cuisine has become quite popular in India in the last few years because of flavourful dishes that share similarities with the traditional food within the country that uses pungent spices and earthy flavours. With its earliest roots in Mesoamerican cuisine, Mexican cooking uses a lot of vegetables, meats and grains to prepare a variety of lip-smacking dishes. One of the most popular delicacies being the Mexican salad, a recipe that you can find on menus of several high-end restaurants serving a variety of colourful and flavourful salads.

While there are quite a few recipes to try out for Mexican salad, the one shared by Tarika Singh on her YouTube channel, Get Curried, is the easiest to cook up. You can make it in just a few minutes and serve your guests. It can also be consumed as an evening snack or mid-morning meal to beat hunger pangs. Here is its recipe.

Dressing For Mexican Salad

One of the major aspects of acing the recipe of any salad is preparing its dressing. It has all the spices, flavours, and oomph that you need to make salad stand out among other spreads on the dining table. 

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 3 tablespoons lemon juice 
  • ¼ teaspoon chilli flakes
  • 2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¾ teaspoon cumin powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 3-4 garlic cloves

Method

  • Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and keep it aside for all the flavours to blend and amplify.

Vegetables For Mexican Salad


The second aspect of a Mexican salad is the vegetables. They add freshness and raw taste to the dish. Moreover, it is a good way of including seasonal vegetables to your diet and improving your overall well-being. 

Ingredients

  • 200 gm lattice
  • 1 medium chopped tomato
  • ½ avocado
  • ½ cup boiled kidney beans
  • ⅓ cup green onions
  • 1 cup charred corn kernels

Method

  • Add all the vegetables to a bowl and add half of the dressing to it.
  • Toss it around to coat vegetables and pour the rest of the dress after topping it with green onion. 
  • Salad is ready to be served.

Tarika Singh suggested adding dressing in parts to ensure that every bit of the salad is covered evenly. Garnish it with green onion and give it a final toss before serving. According to the YouTuber, this salad can be paired with sandwiches or served as a side dish because it is a hearty accompaniment to any meal.
