Try These Non-Vegetarian Dishes From Tamil Nadu

India has tremendous variety when it comes to food. Every state is known for its own unique cuisine. But sometimes, when we talk about that uniqueness and novelty, we tend to generalize the food of a state. Tamil Nadu is usually known for the typical South Indian spread that we see – starting from idli, vada, dosa to uttapam. But what misses the attention of people is the amazing range of non-vegetarian dishes that the state is home to. It is a pity that people do not know about this amazing treasure of authentic non-vegetarian Tamil food. Let us look at some of these dishes.

Ratha Poriyal

As different as it might sound to the uninitiated, ratha poriyal is a traditional Tamil dish made with goat blood. The blood is first made into a jelly-like consistency. Which is further fried to make ratha poriyal. It is traditionally enjoyed with steamed rice. This dish is rich in iron and is one of the most popular side dishes enjoyed in Madurai.

Made in Dindigul, this Biryani is named after the headgear that the original cook of the biryani wore. It has a very high meat content of 2:1 in terms of how much rice goes into it. This biryani uses a lot of spices, especially garlic, which gives it a distinct flavour. 

Kola Urundai 

These Tamil Nadu special meatballs are a burst of flavour in your mouth. This dish can be had as it is, and it can also be had after adding it to a spicy gravy or curry. Kola Urundai can be had as a side dish as well as the main gravy. They are spicy and delicious and unlike any other meatball that you might have tried. 

Muniyadi Vilas Chicken 

This special chicken dish is extremely flavourful and very different from all the other types of chicken curries that you might have tasted. The main secret behind its specific taste is the aroma of freshly grounded spices. It goes well with rice.

Kongunadu Chicken 

If you want to start out with a chicken gravy from Tamil Nadu that is experimental in its cooking, but still close to the flavours that we are used to associating with our regular gravies, then it is the kongunadu chicken curry. It has a generous portion of potatoes and lemon, the latter giving it that extra zing.
