Sushmita Sen Reveals Mishti Doi As All-Time Favourite Breakfast

Taali movie actress Sushmita Sen recently gave an interview to a daily and revealed Mishti Doi as her all-time favourite Bengali breakfast dish when asked about her culinary preferences.  She says "I can have Mishti Doi and Sandesh on a regular basis, which is really unhealthy as an idea." The sweetener of choice is jaggery. Therefore, it's not sugar, yet it tastes great. It's connected to my early experiences in Kolkata," she adds. Yes, it's true that bengali food has the power to woo even the most dull palates. 

Mishti Doi is a traditional Bengali dessert that embodies the perfect balance of creamy and sweet. Made by fermenting sweetened milk, it has a delightful caramelized flavor and a smooth, velvety texture. This luscious treat is often served in earthen pots, adding a rustic charm to its presentation. Mishti Doi is a beloved delicacy that captures the essence of Bengal's culinary heritage. 

Sandesh, on the other hand, is a well-liked Bengali dessert made of fresh paneer (cottage cheese) and sugar. It's flavoured subtly with cardamom and saffron and shaped into an assortment of forms. All across the world, dessert lovers enjoy sandesh for its ability to capture the spirit of traditional Bengali sweets with its mild flavours and velvety texture. 

Healthy Makeover

Use low-fat or skim milk instead of whole milk to produce a healthier mishti doi. Instead of using table sugar, try using honey or stevia. To enhance the protein and creaminess, use Greek yoghurt. Add some cardamom or saffron for extra flavour. This healthier variation on the classic dessert tastes just like the original, but with fewer calories. 

Use paneer prepared from low-fat milk to create a guilt-free sandesh. Swap the white sugar for honey or maple syrup for a healthier alternative. Try other spices and seasonings by mixing in some crushed almonds, saffron, or cardamom. Enjoy without going overboard by keeping serving sizes modest.
