Deliciae, a pioneering patisserie in the centre of Mumbai, has long been the city's elite's favourite place to get cakes and desserts. This culinary tradition is maintained by Bunty Mahajan, a celebrity pastry chef and former home baker who has spent more than 50 years perfecting her trade. In honour of Nita and Mukesh Ambani's 41st wedding anniversary, she recently baked. She presented a stunning five-tier cake that was inspired by the Swadesh initiative. The cake was decorated with a cake topper that said, "Happy Anniversary, Dearest Nita and Mukesh.”
Deliciae has a history of serving the wealthy and well-to-do in Mumbai and crafting signature cakes for every occasion. On her 41st wedding anniversary, Nita Ambani received a very special gift from a "dear friend" in the form of this cake made in delicate pastel blue, green, and pink. Mahajan conducted extensive research and scouting before coming up with the idea for a "Swadesh" cake.
The Stunning 5-Tier Cake Crafted For The Ambani
The five-tier design included a base inspired by Indian carpet weaving patterns and edible patterns that resembled Indian handlooms with gold embellishments. The cake came together with lots of floral designs, including the lotus, which is India’s national flower. Indian mythology and art frequently feature lotuses, which are renowned for their hardiness and purity.
Posting on Instagram, Mahajan described the cake as an "exotic creation" influenced by Indian artistry and heritage. The extravagant cake carries on the Ambani family's custom of themed anniversary creations. The pair honoured their ambitious animal conservation project, Vantara, with a unique Vantara-inspired cake for their 40th wedding anniversary last year.
She added, “I wanted to know how I could translate Swadesh into this cake design. With the idea of the lotus tying the whole cake together, which is the national flower, I also wanted to let everyone know that every woman is like a lotus flower.” This was partly a nod to women’s day, this year as well. She concluded the post by saying, “I hope the person this is gifted to will also appreciate it.”
