Former Indian men’s cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni is a man who needs no introduction. Born in Ranchi, Jharkhand, his journey of making it to the national team is no less than an inspiration, which is why the movie titled M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story was made, and late actor Sushant Singh Rajput played the lead. Though he retired as the captain in 2017, he still plays for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and was bestowed with the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Parachute Regiment of the Indian National Army in 2011.

Being a sportsman and an army personnel at 42 is not a piece of cake. One needs dedication and most of all, it’s a must for them to follow a healthy diet and fitness routine. Though MS Dhoni stays in shape, he is just like any other person who loves his food. Over the years, he has shared his favourite food on either social media or in interviews. Here is what the sportsman loves to gorge on.

Butter Chicken

Butter chicken is not just a dish, it is a culinary experience that people around the world love to indulge in. It is among MS Dhoni’s favourite dishes too, however, he has a specific way of eating it. In an old interview, cricketer Robin Uthappa revealed that Dhoni would only eat the gravy of butter chicken and leave the meat. However, if he indulges in a whole butter chicken, he would avoid eating chapati. The former captain enjoys this creamy delicacy for either lunch or dinner.

Home Cooked Meals

Like any other fitness enthusiast, Dhoni also prefers home-cooked meals to stay on the top of his game. He prefers to eat simple meals, and as an Indian, he loves regional and staple dishes. In old interviews, it has been revealed that the 42-year-old sportsman loves a wholesome meal that includes dal, rice, roti, and vegetables or animal meat. It is a staple in many homes and is considered the healthiest combination of all.

Salad

Salad has an image to be boring, preferable because people imagine a few vegetables arranged in concentric circles, sprinkled with salt and pepper. However, fitness enthusiasts prefer to eat salad for meals, and if you ask your dietician or nutritionist, they will tell you healthy and delicious recipes. MS Dhoni also likes a bowl of healthy salad for meals to provide his body with essential nutrients and fibre.

Milk And Lassi

Dairy products like milk, lassi, and buttermilk are quite famous in India. Much like any other person, the sportsman also enjoys these with delight. They are good sources of protein, vitamin B, calcium, and vitamin D. They benefit digestive health and gut flora. No wonder why MS Dhoni indulges in these.

Kheer And Gajar Ka Halwa

Reportedly, MS Dhoni loves to relish kheer, a homemade one. The sportsman has a sweet tooth, and he carefully chooses the delectable to indulge in. If it’s the winter season, Mahi would enjoy a bowl of gajar ka halwa with great gusto.

Chicken Tikka

Apart from butter chicken, the cricketer also likes to eat chicken tikka. Popular in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, it is made by roasting boneless pieces of chicken by arranging them on a skewer. Spices are added to the marination to add flavours to the meat to leave your taste buds tantalised.
