It is very important to handle it carefully as the uncooked meat spoils very easily. But do not worry, it is not very difficult to keep them in good state if you know the proper method of storing.

Here are five useful tips for storing raw chicken at home:

Store In Airtight Containers

Handling raw chicken is a crucial task therefore it is important to store them in airtight containers. You can also use heavy-duty freezer bags or plastic wrap as they will keep your chicken fresh for a long time. These bags also prevent freezer burns.

Do Not Keep In Room Temperature

There are certain rules you must follow before handling raw chicken. The most important one is not leaving it in room temperature. You must store the unused chicken immediately as the raw meat is more likely to develop bacteria in them. Also, always wash your hands and surfaces before and after handling them.

Store In The Freezer

Raw chicken can be stored in the fridge if you are planning to cook it within a few hours. But if you are storing it any longer make sure to use the freezer. The meat should be kept in the back of the refrigerator where it is the coldest. As opening the door frequently tends to warm the front area of the fridge.

Make Sure You Have Covered It

Never store the raw chicken uncovered as this will make the shelf life of the meat much shorter. This will also make it dry very quickly and the chicken will absorb other odors from the refrigerator as well. Uncovered meat will also affect other foods kept in the refrigerator.

Do Not Keep For More Than Two Days

Although you have followed every rule of handling raw chicken, keep in mind the meat cannot be stored for more than two days. Keeping it any longer in the fridge can also spoil other food and ingredients stored there. But if you are forgetful like me, I would recommend you to set a remainder in your mobile phone.

Keep these tips in mind and save your extra chicken from spoiling.
