An Indian single malt whisky, Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023, has won the Best In Show, Double Gold award at the prestigious 2023 Whiskies of the World Awards defeating hundreds of whisky brands from around the world. The homegrown single malt brand created by Piccadilly Distilleries in India has proved that the quality and popularity of Indian whiskies around the world is steadily making a mark.

The Whiskies of the Worlds Awards judges over a 100 varieties of whiskies from around the world every year.  A panel of top whisky tastemakers and influencers in the alco-bev industry evaluates all these whiskies on the basis of rigorous blind tastings over several rounds across categories. After these rounds, the panel selects one whisky as the Best In Show across all the Best-In-Class whiskies. This year, Indri’s Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 outshined globally reputed Scotch, Bourbon, Canadian, Australian and British single malt whiskies to earn the coveted position.

Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 is a peated Indian single malt that is prepared with six-row barley, which is then distilled in traditional Indian copper pot stills. The single malt whisky is then matured in PX Sherry Casks for a long time. Aided by the sub-tropical climate of North India, specifically Haryana, where Piccadilly Distilleries is located, Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 has a smoky flavour infused with candied fruits, toasted nuts, spices, oak, bittersweet chocolate and more.

Launched in 2021, the journey of Indri began with Indri-Trini, India’s first triple cask single malt whisky. With the mission to put quality homegrown whiskies on the global map, Piccadilly Distilleties introduced Indri two years ago and has since won over 14 international accolades. “Indri’s big win at Whiskies of the World Awards, being rated as the Best Whisky in the World, further strengthens our vision of putting homegrown quality liquids on the world map,” Siddhartha Sharma, Founder, Piccadily Distilleries said. “It is an honour to be recognized and celebrated by such a renowned platform, outshining hundreds of whiskies from across the globe.”

“The perception of India is changing globally,” Sharma added in a press release. “India and Indians are breaking boundaries on all fronts be it technology, business, sport or crafted high quality premium products. India was always known for its exquisite and outstanding quality and finer things for hundreds of years and we feel that India is getting its magic back and achieving feats like Chandrayaan landing on moon to Neeraj Chopra breaking world records and numerous Indians accomplishing milestones like never before. It is an exciting time for India, and Indian whiskies are not far behind as we are playing our part in the India story.”

The win by Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 has not only helped strengthen India’s position in the global whisky industry, but has also proved that the nation is making quite the mark in terms of creating formidable single malts that can go up against the best in the world. Indri-Trini is available across 19 states in India and 17 countries; Indri Diwali Collector’s Edition 2023 will be available in US, India and in select European countries from November onwards.
