Those uninitiated, butter chicken is perhaps one of the most beloved curries of India. It is said to have been invented by Kundan Lal, who in a bid to save his tandoori chicken from growing dry, mixed it tomatoes and curd. He quite liked the dish later and developed it further to give the country its much beloved butter chicken.  

You would find plenty who love the gravy so much, that they often prepare it paneer and potatoes to give it a vegetarian spin.  Here’s how you can use Butter Paneer at home.  

If you are left with some of the gravy from butter paneer, we suggest you use it to make these butter chicken chole. This fully vegetarian preparation does not contain a single shred of chicken. It is wholesome, tangy and just so good that you would be making it way more often. The chole or chickpea is another favourite desi ingredient that is renowned for its versatility. It tastes good in curries, sabzis, salads and even sandwiches. Now can you imagine who delish will they taste in a portion of butter chicken sauce or gravy?  

It is a fairly simple recipe. All you need to do here is heat some oil in large Dutch oven or pot on medium high-heat. Add onions, red peppers, and sautee till onions are somewhat translucent. Then add in the chickpeas, make sure you have boiled it first. Then add garlic and ginger and sautee again. Add some water let it cook. Finally, add some butter chicken sauce or gravy, add salt and pepper. Bring it to a boil. Let it cook nicely for 5-8 minutes, do not forget to stir occasionally and voila, you have for yourself a gravy that will make you smack your lips twice.
