The ongoing summer season is giving us a bounty of seasonal fruits and vegetables and among them, what stands out is mulberry. Also known as ‘shehtoot’ in Hindi, mulberries are sweet-tart fruit ranging from deep purple to red and even white colours. This fruit is a summer special bursting with juicy goodness and a hint of earthiness.  

Mulberries are packed with Vitamin C, making them beneficial for the body. They are also rich in minerals and antioxidants. Apart from having it individually, you can enjoy the mulberries in a variety of recipes starting from pies to jams or smoothies and sorbets. You can enjoy its fruity flavour in dishes, making your summer season refreshing and light. Here are some of the mulberry dishes that you can try making in summer.   

  • Mulberry Jam  

This must be your summer quintessential, capturing the essence of the season. To prepare this, you can simmer fresh mulberries with sugar and a hint of lemon juice, until they break down into a luscious spread. Spread the jam on the bread toast and swirl it into yoghurt or you can also use it as a topping for pancakes and waffles.

If you want a summer dessert, then nothing can be better than this. This dessert showcases the sweet-tart flavour of the mulberries under the buttery biscuit topping.
