Cold Comfort: 8 Drinks To Get You Toasty Warm

Hot Winter G&T 

Ingredients

  • 25ml Sipsmith London Dry Gin
  • 25ml tonic syrup
  • hot water
  • orange wedge

Method

  • Combine the gin and tonic syrup in a mug.
  • Stir well and top with hot water.
  • Garnish with an orange wedge.

Black Toddy

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Jim Beam Black
  • 1 part honey
  • 2 parts fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • lemon peel

Method

  • Put bourbon, honey, and lemon juice in a 200-ml mug.
  • Top off with hot water and stir until honey is dissolved.
  • Garnish with a lemon peel (optional).

Maker’s Mark Hot Toddy

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Maker’s Mark Bourbon
  • 1/2 part lemon juice
  • 1/2 part cinnamon simple syrup*
  • 1/4 part honey
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  • hot water
  • lemon wheel and cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish

Method 

  • Add all ingredients to a mug and stir well.
  • Garnish with lemon wheel and fresh grated cinnamon or nutmeg
  • To make cinnamon syrup, mix equal parts sugar and water with one broken-up cinnamon stick per 1/2 cup. 
  • Bring to a boil.
  • Once sugar is completely melted, remove the pan from heat and let sit for at least 30 minutes. Strain out cinnamon.

Vanilla Latte

Ingredients

  • 1 shot Espresso
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Vanilla syrup to taste

Method 

  • Pour the vanilla syrup into a mug.
  • Add a shot of fresh prepared Espresso.
  • Next, heat the milk and froth it with a whisk (it should double in volume), before gently pouring it into your mug.
  • Stir and sip.

Salted Caramel Espresso

Ingredients
  • 2 shots Espresso
  • 1 tbsp salted caramel syrup
  • 30 ml whipped cream

Method

  • Brew two shots of Espresso, and pour into a mug.
  • Add the salted caramel and stir gently.
  • Top with whipped cream.

Moroccan Tea

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp green tea powder
  • Fresh and dried mint leaves
  • sugar, to taste

Method

  • Boil 5 cups of water and add the green tea and mint to it.
  • Turn off heat and cover with a lid.
  • Let it steep for 15 minutes.
  • Add sugar to taste.

Lemon Ginger Tea

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces fresh ginger
  • thinly sliced
  • 1 lemon
  • 3 tbsp honey

Method

  • Boil 4 cups water in a saucepan with the ginger.
  • Add honey and lemon and keep boiling on medium heat for 2 mins.
  • Strain into a cup. 

Turmeric Tea

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp turmeric
  • 2 sticks cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tbsp honey

Method

  • Warm the milk in a saucepan.
  • Add all ingredients and whisk.
