Chicken is the most loved and one of the popular meats among the non-vegetarians. Chicken definitely allures the crowd being the most common kind of poultry in the world. It is relatively available at ease and it is not expensive to raise chickens. Chicken can be consumed in a diverse range of ways like grilling, baking, barbecuing, boiling. It has become the staple fast food to be consumed and is considered healthier than red meat because of low concentrations of unhealthy fats like saturated ones and cholesterol. The different parts of chicken are served with different nutrients and the taste differs too, the most loved are the chicken legs and chicken breasts.
Chicken 65 - the concept for which originated at Hotel Buhari, Chennai - is a spicy, deep-fried chicken as a quick snack. The main flavour of the dish comes from the red chillies infused in it, making the chicken hot and spicy. Though the origin of the dish is believed to be coming from AM Buhari of the Buhari Hotel Chain, this popular dish is believed to be associated with lots of myths surrounding it.
Some believe that the name 65 comes because of the use of 65 types of chilli peppers. Few believe that this dish was served as one of the simple meals to the Indian soldiers in 1965. Others claim to have thought that it means 65 pieces of chicken. Apart from its origin in Burari Hotel, Tamil Nadu; the name related to the dish is still surrounded with myths. Though the taste is marvelous enough to hit anyone’s taste buds.
Here’s the recipe for Chicken 65
Ingredients:
- 500 gms boneless chicken
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- ½ tsp white pepper
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp garam masala powder
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 tbsp ginger-garlic powder
- Salt, as per taste
- 1 beaten egg white
- 3 tbsps curd
- ¼ cup corn flour
- 2 tbsps refined flour
- 2 tbsps rice flour
- Oil, for frying
- 1 tbsp chopped garlic cloves
- 10-15 curry leaves
- 3-4 slit green chillies
- ¼ tsp red food colour, mixed in 3 tbsps water
Method:
- Take a mixing bowl and add all the chicken.
- To the chicken, add all the spices, lemon juice, salt, the egg white, curd, and the flours.
- Mix well together and leave to marinate for about half an hour.
- After half an hour, heat 3 tablespoons of oil in a pan.
- To the oil, add chopped garlic and cook till it turns slightly golden.
- Add curry leaves and green chillies, let it get tempered.
- Add the mixture of water and food colour.
- Now, turn the flame low and the marinated chicken, saute for a minute.
Your Chicken 65 is ready to be served.
