Beyond The Borders: 3 Lahori Dishes To Try At Home

When it comes to food, every nook of the world has something or the other to offer to everyone. Every cuisine is distinct in its ingredients, flavours, cooking styles, and methods, making them special and unique. When it comes to our Indian cuisine, our homegrown ingredients, spicy and zingy flavours, traditional cooking methods, and styles make the cuisine one of its kind. The cuisine has kept food connoisseurs worldwide hooked to its authenticity and decadence. However, if we look around to find a cuisine similar to ours, we are sure they find identical features in the cooking of our neighbouring countries. Food has always transcended borders and travelled to win hearts across and beyond topographical boundaries, and Indian food is no different. The foremost thing to strike my mind is the cuisine of Pakistan that was a part of India once and has similarities on numerous grounds- food being one of them. The Lahori cuisine of Pakistan is brimming with flavours and is sure to leave you gobsmacked for good. Here are some exciting and indulgent Lahori dishes that you can make at home even without crossing the border.

Lahori Hareesa

The Pakistani cousin of Haleem, Lahori Hareesa, is enjoyed best with flatbreads. The dish consists of kebabs and a moong dal gravy and is an absolute delight to savour on festive occasions.

Lahori Chargha

This Lahori dish is perfect for a hearty Christmas feast as Christmas is almost here. On similar lines with the Western whole chicken roast, Lahori Chrgha is made by coating a whole skinless chicken in a flavourful mixture of whole spices, ginger-garlic paste and curd and deep-frying it to perfection.

Lahori Mutton Karahi

We know you are too immersed in the deliciousness of chicken karahi to indulge in something else, but this mutton karahi is worth trying. The mutton pieces are cooked in a spicy, thick and delicious tomato and onion gravy until they are soft, tender and succulent. The dish is perfect to be paired with flatbread or steamed rice.

Now that you know how to make these dishes at home, you don’t have to cross borders to taste the flavours of Pakistan.
