5 Recipes For Homemade Candies

As a kid whenever we had some spare coins, we all used to rush to nearby shops for that small sugar rush of candies.Things may have changed now, but the love for candies remains the same.To revive the same feeling again, have you ever thought of making candies in your own kitchen? 

If yes, then here are 5 easy recipes to make candy at home which kids will also love:

1. Gummies 

Ingredients: 

  • Any fruit juice of your choice 
  • Gelatin 
  • Honey 

Method: 

1. Pour the fruit juice in a saucepan. If possible, opt for organic, single-ingredient juice. 

2. Sprinkle on Gelatin to give it a gummy texture and allow it to bloom on fruit juice for 5 minutes. 

3. Then add honey and your gummies are ready. 

4. Cut it into desired shapes. 

5. Store gummies in an air-tight glass container to keep them for the longest time. 

2. Microwave Peanut Butter Fudge 

Ingredients: 

  • 230 gm Peanut Butter 
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter 
  • 1 lb powdered sugar 

Method: 

1. Line an 8 x 8-inch pan with parchment paper 

2. Combine the butter and peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for one minute and stir. 

3. Microwave for one more minute and stir again until mixture is completely melted and smooth.  

4. Add the powdered sugar to the peanut butter mixture and stir until batter is smooth. The batter should be quite thick, like a paste. 

5. Spread batter into the lined baking pan. 

6. Press another parchment paper on the surface and use your palms to apply gentle pressure to evenly spread the fudge across the entire pan.  

7. Lift off the top layer of parchment paper and smooth the surface of fudge with your hands. Refrigerate for about 2 hours to let it set.  

8. Lift fudge out of the pan and cut into one-inch squares with a sharp knife and enjoy.  

3. Microwave Cashew Brittle 

Ingredients: 

  • 1 cup granulated sugar 
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup 
  • 1 cup cashews chopped 
  • 1 tablespoon butter 
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda 

Method: 

1. Generously butter a cookie sheet and set aside.  

2. In a microwave safe bowl (make sure it is microwave safe) 

3. Add the sugar and corn syrup and mix. 

4. Put in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes and then stir. 

5. Put it back into the microwave and cook for an additional 3 minutes.  

6. The mixture should start looking like an amber color. 

7. Stir in the cashews and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes. If the color looks golden brown then it is good to go. 

8. Once the mixture has turned golden brown, remove from the microwave and stir in the butter and vanilla.  

9. Continue cooking for an additional minute and then remove and stir in the baking soda. It will start to foam and become thick.

10. Spread the mixture on the buttered baking sheet and allow it to cool completely and then break into pieces. 

11. It can be stored at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days. 

4. Lemon Drop Candies 

Ingredients: 

  • 2-1/4 cups sugar 
  • 1/2 slice lemon  
  • 3 drops yellow food color optional 
  • 2/3 cup water 
  • 2 tablespoons honey 
  • Icing sugar to dust

Method: 

1. Juice and zest the lemon with a fine grater. 

2. Put water and sugar into a saucepan over a medium low heat. 

3. Heat, stirring, until the sugar dissolves. 

4. Add the lemon zest and bring to a rolling boil.  

5. Remove the saucepan from the heat. 

 6. Add the lemon juice, honey, and food coloring if desired.  

7. Stir together. 

8. Return to the heat until the mixture comes to another boil. 

9. Strain out the lemon rind.  

10. Pour the candy mixture onto a lightly greased baking tray. 

11. Allow it to cool for a few minutes, just until it's cool enough to touch. 

12. Use a spoon or clean fingers and pull-out small pieces one at a time.  

13. Roll into a ball and dust with icing sugar and its ready. 

5. Tamarind Candy

 Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup deseeded ripe tamarind 
  • 3/4 cup grated jaggery 
  • 1/4  tsp red chilli powder 
  • 1/4 tsp salt 
  • 1 tbsp roasted cumin seeds Powder 
  • Pinch of asafetida (Hing)  
  • Sugar for Rolling (coating) 

Method:

1. Blend the ripe tamarind in a blender and make a coarse mixture. Use coffee beans or spices blender. 

2. Remove it into the mixing bowl. Add grated jaggery, red chilli powder, cumin seed powder, salt and mix it well. 

3. Place the mixture bowl into a microwave and warm it up for 30-45 seconds. 

4. Remove it from the microwave, mix it again using your hand and make sticky dough. 

5. Now make a small ball from the dough, then roll it into the sugar and coat it. 

6. Use the same process for the remaining mixture and make more balls from it. 

7. Tamarind candy is ready, store it into an airtight jar.
