Sometime back INTACH (Indian Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) awarded few of restaurants in the city with the heritage tag, which means these have stood the test of time and are still running strong with their USP’s. From Mocambo, Kwality and Trincas to more let’s explore the list of eateries that have been awarded. 

Mocambo

The iconic Devilled crab

 

Known for it’s Devilled crabs and prawn cocktail, this place is one of city’s most famous landmark, this place started off, and was more popular as a nightclub till late 1970’s. A place that sees British Colonial charm and cuisine most dishes today are an Indian version of most of the popular British dishes, the place still boasts of Fish Meuniere, Almost Famous (half kg fried prawns), Cream of Crab Meat Soup, Chicken Chipolata Sizzler, Bhetki Steak Sizzler, Meat Lasagna, Chicken Supreme (with ham & cheese), Mango Souffle, Meringue with Vanilla Ice Cream and more.

Trincas

Trincas is famous for it's contribution to the city's urban culture and nightlife. Over the decades, it has become part of the collective consciousness of modern Kolkata and part of the identity of being Kolkatan. It’s that special Park Street restaurant which holds a million memories. Trincas debuted at its present location on Park Street as a tea-room and bakery in 1939. In 1959 it changed ownership and has evolved over the years, adding cuisines, live entertainment, and secret spaces. This is probably the most unique restaurant in the city. It has history and a cultural legacy. Every true-blue Calcutta family has a story about Trincas.

Allen Kitchen-

Almost on the opposite side of the road to Mitra café, adjacent Sova Bazar Metro Station lies Allens Kitchen. Having said to have started by Mr Allen, a Scottish gentleman their cutlets are an absolute delight. The place had also garnered a heritage tag from Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach). One cannot leave the place without digging into their Prawn Cutlet, Fish Roll, Chicken Stack. Don’t expect anything flashy or fancy and best part you can actually see everything being done right in front of you. Prices too are pretty reasonable.

Kwality 

Chicken sizzlers

 Established in 1952 by Mr. Premnath Ghai, this one happens to be another iconic at Park Street, the interiors are plain jane and looks much simple and regular but once you try their Continental food you surely can’t stop raving about. from Chicken Cutlet with French fries on the side to Chicken Roast and the and Chicken sizzlers each dish is a delight. 

Niranjan Agar

No AC nothing fancy this place swears but it king size Devil eggs. Niranjan Agar was established in 1922, was set up by Niranjan Hazra, who was an self-taught cook and thugh to start an corner shop serving evening snacks or Telebhaja as Bengali’s call it. This one is a tiny place with low ceiling and some basic table chair. The devilled eggs here are made from duck eggs. Doesn’t that sound exciting and mouthful.

Eau Chew

Eau Chew which means means “Europe” in Mandarin one of the oldest Chinese eateries that gets the heritage tag. Approximately 98- years-old, Indian Chinese Association has given Eau Chew the tag of oldest surviving Chinese –family-owned Chinese restaurant in India. This place was started with the whole idea to serve tiffin for the Chinese immigrants and today this place is currently run by run by Joel Huang, and his mother, Josephine Li Ying Huang is known for the famed Josephine Noodles

Nabin Chandra Das

Known to be inventors of Roshogolla

 

The sweets here will surely appeal you but the price might pinch your pocket. Also given the age of the shop this one is much cleaner and more organized. Famous for its roshogolla, the founder was fondly called 'Nobin Moira' of Bagbazar. The shop that started in 1866, the famous creations of this shop are "Abaar Khaabo", "Dedo Sondesh" and "Baikuntha Bhog"(both of which use "Kacha Pak" as the base ingredient), the well known "Kastura Pak". Unlike other places you get "Aata (custard apple) and "Kathaal (jackfruit) Sondesh here.

Dilkush Cabin

Located at one of the city’s main student hub, College Street, Dilkhusa Cabin mixed fried rice and chilli chicken and chicken cutlets are worth the wait here. If your hunger pangs are bigger then move to the handmade roti and mutton kosha. This dated eatery that’s claims to be 118 year old has clientele those are from nearby colleges or shoppers.

Girish Chandra Dey and Nakur Chandra Nandy

Malai Roll

 

This age-old sweet shop that has been offering the best traditional Sandesh in the city is a joint venture started by the father-in-law and the son-in-law. Having stood the test of time this place has earned the tag. Their speciality is naram-pak and kora pak Sandesh. A naram-pak remains intact for three days, while those of kara-pak even for a week
