Caviar, which is essentially salted and preserved fish eggs, give a nice touch with its unique feel and deep taste. With New Year's Eve party menus and chaos into what you want for the menu becomes exhausting, caviar appetisers can be a great addition. It allows a wider variety of taste experiences and the opportunity to experiment with new food combinations, aside from a garnish.

This rise in popularity can be traced to a couple of things. First, the supply of caviar in the world and second, its demand. During the Industrial Revolution, sturgeon populations started dwindling even as caviar became more and more popular. Around the same time, another revolution was about to be unleashed–the rise of nouvelle cuisine. Instead of heavy, hearty dishes, chefs were focusing on light, delicate, flavorful foods. So, without further ado, here’s a list of 5 approachable caviar appetiser recipes for your NYE parties:

Caviar On Blinis

All caviar is roe, which means fish eggs. It is just that the roe, which is more difficult to procure - roe from wild sturgeon in the Caspian Sea and Black Sea, is called caviar. A favourite for the holidays is this easy recipe for blinis, or little Russian pancakes. Add a sprig of fresh dill or chives, a dollop of crème fraîche, and your gorgeous assortment of caviars to top these one-bite delights. They are really simple to make. Caviar is traditionally served in this manner. For even simpler preparation, you can use store-bought blinis or basic toast points. It all comes down to letting the caviar's flavour come through. Also, when the fish eggs rub against each other, they practically make a noise that you can hear. It is kind of similar to a cat's purr!

Caviar Cucumber Boats

If you have a tin of quality caviar, you want to enjoy its flavours and textures without being distracted by a lot of other garnishes. Because of this, cucumber provides an excellent base, and many of the best caviar appetisers have rather mild flavour profiles and structures. In addition to being a great choice for those who are low-carb and gluten-free, cucumber is also quite adaptable. On the cutting board, you can shape and mould it to your specifications. Cucumber boats are traditionally made by carving off the inside of each cucumber and filling it with any concoction you think is appropriate for the situation. Here, however, it is suggested, you hollow out the cucumbers and then slice them horizontally to make bite-sized pieces with a dab of caviar and a creamy filling.

Caviar Puff Pastry Bites

It's difficult to resist a freshly baked puff pastry bite, especially when it's topped with a perfectly shaped scoop of caviar, even if you're attempting to limit your intake of carbohydrates. Make your own pastry batter if you want to show off your baking prowess. The key is to use plenty of butter so that you get that signature flaky effect when it rises. Alternatively, you can use store-bought puff pastry and craft these pieces into any size and shape you like. Since the goal here is to form a small fortress for your favourite caviar, make sure there is a spot to place the caviar, along with some other tasty garnishes for a complete and appetising bite.

Caviar On Roasted Potatoes

Everything is better with potatoes, even caviar. The starchy and satisfying textures of potatoes make them the ideal base for a caviar appetiser. Numerous varieties of potatoes are available, including starchy and waxy varieties, as well as a wide range of colour possibilities to add some colour to your appetiser tray. When potatoes are narrow, coin-shaped, they roast rather rapidly. To make them especially crispy, a little olive oil goes a long way. When the potatoes are ready, simply apply your crème fraiche and a small portion of caviar to each bite. This is an instant crowd-pleaser that barely requires any prep time—everyone wins.

Caviar Devilled Eggs

Deviled eggs have a somewhat steep learning curve, but the result is well worth the work. First, the eggs are hard-boiled, the yolks are scooped out, and the yolks are used to make a zesty, whipped filling that is then added back into the egg whites one by one. You can rely on common items like white vinegar, mayo, mustard, salt, pepper, and paprika to prepare the mix. While most deviled eggs are served once the yolk mixture has been added to the whites, this recipe calls for a generous spoonful of caviar as a finishing touch.
