Ramen is among the most famous Japanese dishes known to Indians. It was initially imported from China and is an inexpensive wheat-noodle soup dish. Ramen noodles are typically long and elastic with varying thicknesses. Ramen toppings include fatty slices of roasted or braised pork (chasu), bamboo shoots with a salty flavour (menma), shredded leeks, green onions (negi), bean sprouts (moyashi), or seaweed. White pepper, black pepper, butter, chilli pepper, sesame seeds, and crushed garlic are the most commonly added seasonings.

Shoyu ramen is made with chicken broth, but other meats such as pork, beef, or fish can also be used. The soup is clear and is often served when the menu does not specify the type of ramen. Miso ramen, on the other hand, is thick and brown and is prepared with soybean paste. Miso soup is a winter favourite in Japan. Ramen is also served as a side dish with pan-fried dumplings, fried rice, or drinks.
