In an attempt to add to the spirit of the Navratri festival, the IRCTC has announced a special, vrat  menu for travellers who are fasting during the festival. Available on select trains through their e-catering platform – the Food-on-Track website, passengers can now place an order for food two hours before their scheduled journey time, with a valid PNR number. Making it easier for travellers with this service that was introduced on October 12, the food can be ordered on booking prior as well as a pay on delivery model.

Some of the specials on this vrat menu include sabudana khichdi, kuttu ka dosa, falahari thali that includes sama rice pulao, potato curry, fruit salad and curd, and makhana kheer. The initiative has been undertaken as a result of the IRCTC feeling like the dietary restrictions followed by some of their passengers might make it difficult for them to avail food that is suited for consumption. The special menu will be available until October 24, 2023 – taking into account all the mandates required to fast.
