While travelling to any place, especially by train or road, we tend to pack snacks for the journey. Chatting with one another, playing games, watching movies and nibbling onto small bites are common ways to pass time. On my recent trip to Amritsar, the train took us almost eight hours and we just couldn’t sit idle for that long. Moreover, we felt hungry every two hours so each one of us had got chips, biscuits and sandwiches that we could eat on the way. There was a couple beside us who opened up their tiffin boxes and the aroma of their kulchas and chole filled the entire compartment.

Mira Kapoor, the self-confessed foodie that she is, also seems to be travelling somewhere otherwise why would she be carrying such a huge snack pack with her. Oh yes, you read it right. Although they say you should travel light, it hardly happens to be the case. Mira Kapoor recently shared a glimpse of her packed handbags in her Instagram story and we are curious what’s inside. She captions it saying, “Me and my overstuffed snack bag #becausesnacks” and we can surely relate.

One of her bags is a Christian Dior handbag while the other one kept beside reads, ‘Lunch Bag’. We can’t wait to find out what’s inside her bag. Until then, here are a few easy-to-make snacks that you can carry while travelling.

1.  Chutney Sandwich

These are light, non-greasy and quick-to-make sandwiches. Slather a slice of bread with some coriander chutney. Add sliced tomatoes and cucumbers to it. Cover it with another slice and cut it into triangular shape.

2.  Paneer Bhurji

If you’re going for a longer journey, you might need something more filling than a sandwich. To avoid spillage of vegetables and aroma spreading in the car/train, try this paneer bhurji recipe. The cottage cheese is mashed and filled with chopped tomatoes and onion. Add a dash of salt, some coriander and turmeric powder. Once ready, stuff it in the centre of a chapatti and roll it up.

3.  Bread Dhokla

The actual dhokla recipe might take a lot of time to prepare so we suggest that you opt for this bread dhokla. The breadcrumbs are used to for the square-shaped tangy, Gujarati snack. Tossed in mustard seeds, the pieces of dhokla can be packed with pickled green chillies.

4.  Chivda

This is dry, chips-like snack made from instant oats and chivda or flattened rice. Dried coconut flakes and cornflakes are also used to make this wholesome snack which is flavoured with salt, sugar, chili powder and turmeric powder.
