There have always been laws around food since times immemorial. While most of these laws make sense, some of them have become redundant in this time and age. However, no one has moved a motion in the parliament to revoke these laws and as a result of that, some archaic laws around food have made it to the present constitutions of countries. We compiled some hilarious food laws from around the world and we bet that some of these bizzare laws are surely going to leave you laughing.

1) Alaska, United States

Most of the most hilarious laws around food are from the Unites States. Did you know that in Alaska, you can’t feed any alcoholic drink to a moose? So if you had any plans of spending time with this wild animal in a bar, they are not going to pan out any time soon. If you do feed a moose a beer in Alaska, you can be charged under serious offence.

2) Bolivia

What is life without a glass of wine by the side? In Bolivia, single women may live by this motto, however married women aren’t allowed more than one glass of wine. This sexist law is stemmed in the belief that alcohol may make women immoral and may lead to affairs and eventually a divorce!

3) California, United States

While this one’s not a law anymore, we had to include it in this list as it is that ridiculous. Did you know that before 1987, people in California weren’t allowed to eat or sell ice cream in public, on streets? It was mayor Clint Eastwood who repealed this law in 1987. Can you imagine if this law wouldn’t have been repealed, people would’ve never experienced the fun that Turkish ice cream sellers have with their customers.

4) United Kingdom

Under the Salmon Act of 1986, Parliament deemed it illegal to handle salmon in suspicious circumstances across the U.K. This law has confused everyone as no one knows how one can handle fish suspiciously. Many people think that it means you can’t steal fish, however there’s no clarity on the law yet. The law also applies to trout, smelt, freshwater fish, lampreys and eels.

5) Georgia, United States

This is probably the most bizzare food law present in this list. Not that you'd ever want to, but just in case you do: Putting an ice cream cone in your back pocket on Sundays is illegal in Georgia. So you would want to think twice before buying an ice cream and stuffing it in your back pocket on a Sunday, okay?

6) Denmark

We really need to bring this law in India. Rejoice foodies, for in Denmark, you are only legally required to pay for your meal only and only if you are, by your own standards, ‘full’. How lucky are the people living in Denmark?! We surely hope that this particular law isn't misused by a hungry group of foodies who are on a tight budget.

7) New York, United States

Acrobats is fine. Skateboarding is fine. Dancing in the city centre is fine. But walking backwards on the sidewalks while eating peanuts is a serious offence in New York. Yes you read that right. You can not eat peanuts and walk backwards on the sidewalks in New York, unless you want to attract penal action. So next time you visit New York, be sure to report to the police if you see such crime.
