1. Nasi Lemak

Nasi lemak is considered as the unofficial national dish of Malaysia. It is roughly translated as ‘rice in cream’. In this the regular white rice is soaked in luscious coconut cream which is then steamed to perfection. It is often accompanied by spicy sauce (sambal), hard-boiled eggs, cucumber slices, lamb/chicken/or beef curry and seafood.

 2. Rendang

This stellar dish is tangy, fiery and it is all things scintillating. Rendang is one of the most popular dishes of Malaysia. Traditionally in this the succulent pieces of beef are braised in coconut milk and gamut of rich spices. Then it is slowly-cooked for several hours, which gives it a sapid aromatic and flavoursome touch.

 3. Kari Ayam

‘Kari’ which sounds like ‘curry’ is essentially a curry only. This popular curry consists of tender meat pieces which are tossed in a creamy toothsome mixture of coconut milk with lemongrass, kaffir and lime leaves. Additionally, it is seasoned with many Indian herbs and spices like chilli, coriander seeds, cumin, fennel, cinnamon and turmeric, among others.

 4. Oh Chien

It is another tantalizing dish which is simple yet mouth-watering. Originally hailing from Taiwan, Oh Chien has made its special place in the Malaysian cuisine. Oh chien is a scrumptious scrambled oyster omelette which is made with fresh oysters. These oysters are coated with sweet potato starch and egg, finishing off with additional sprinkling of spices, which is then deep fried until crisp. It is usually served with hot chilli sauce with a hint of zesty lime juice. Drooling, aren't you?

 5. Mooncakes

Mooncakes is a traditional decadent dessert which is savoured during the 15th day of the 8th lunar month each year. Just like the festival, the ingredients in this sweet represent harmony as it includes ham, red beans, lotus seeds, egg yolk, dates, chocolate and durian (optional). This preparation is a perfect combination of sweet and savoury.
